Kiteboarding Sicily Spot Guide

A kiteboarding spot guide from our trip to Sicily in July of 2023. Winds are mostly thermal around 15 kts. Forecast wasnt particularly good but we ended up kiteboarding every day! Winds were better than the forecast which is always nice. We flew into Palermo airport. Rented a car. Drove about an hour. Stayed at the Alby Pro Center and kiteboarded right from the property. Was a fantastic place a...

This is a video I've been looking to do for a while now, compare these two lightwind kites side by side in the same conditions. I originally felt like the MotoXL has more power, feels lighter and turns quicker. I wanted to see if this remained true in lighter winds such as a 9kt session. Here is what we felt. Kiteboarding in the winter time in Tampa Bay Florida can be pretty awesome! There are some cold days or cold mornings (temperatures in the 50s) but in general its not that bad at all. Most people are wearing 3/2 mm wetsuits or 4/3mm suits if you get cold easy. Kite sizes range from 9m to 15m depending on the riders weight. Kiteboarding in the Clearest Water of Tampa Bay
Hi, thanks for your content. I’ve been kiteboarding for fours years and only ride cabrinha switchblade since the beginning. I’d like to contribute with two things: 1) to the big ones like me, 1,90m height and 105kg weight (6’25 and 231 pounds) with long arms, the 2023 cos bar compared to the 2022 trimlite bar really feels lighter, however, the shorter main lines just feels weird, like I have to ride with my arms more bent and pull the directional lines harder when working the kite; and 2) as you said in another video that you compared 2023s SB, Moto X and FX, the 23 SB definitely has lesser bar pressure than the previous years, specially when compared to the 20, 21 and 22s. Although the SB now turns quicker, when you put both new things together, it made me struggle the first time I tried my new set of kite and bar, on a wind of 16-17 knots mean with 20 knots gust, the kite really lack of power compared to the SB 22 and older. On the second try, I rode the SB 23 with the 22 trimlite bar and felt much more confident about the depower, even though still feel weaker than my older kites. Hope this info can help other riders as well. Thanks.
Anthony, thanks for a great review as I consider buying the Cabrinha Moto X. Your wife and babes made it a special addition of a great little family. Thanks again for your posts. Peter
Hello Anthony, it’s good to see your back out on the water kiting after the knee incident. Your family looks happy and healthy. This is a nice simple review that touches on the main differences which will help me decide which kite is better suited for my age, weight, riding style and new location. I have left Florida and relocated to the Eastern shore in Md., so ride on Chesapeake bay waters these days. I now live on a river and can kite in front of the house which is pretty cool. And I also ride at Virginia Beach on occasion.
Aw Im definitely going to miss seeing your truck at the beach.. When you come back to visit please message me so we can kite together. And that is cool! Send me some videos of kiting the river. I really like the range of these kites. I think that 13m Moto XL is a huge win, you were there when I first test rode it. If I had to choose one kite it would be that one. Thats the one Im taking to TCI this year
@@KiteboardingStPetersburg I will absolutely get in touch when I return to my ‘ol stomping grounds! It’d be very cool to grab a sesh on the flats. Yeah, my 12 & 14 Mottos are getting tired and I’ve been thinking about that 13m Moto XL for sure to split the difference. Hope you guys have an awesome trip to TCI. I’ll send some short vids on the river. Nothing fancy, just small jumps and front rolls, but good fun. It’s great to rig in my yard and literally walk into the river to self-launch. Typically have to whole place to myself we’re so remote.
thanks for the nice video and good explanation of the two kites...ps your son is infected with kite virus at an early age....haha
Thank you! Hahah yeahhh he goes nuts when he sees the kites or gets to go on the jetski to watch us up close
Have this exact bar but had a jet ski get into my lines and sucked up one of my steering lines and ripped the left leader out of the handle and lost the insert cassette piece. Any advice where to get all the parts in one place? I find one piece on a website then another on a different site. Really frustrating i cant get all the stuff I need on one shop so it all comes at once. It also messed up the depower center ones that go through the black tube. I pulled that line out and disconnected it but apparently ypu buy the whole thing in one piece.
sorry for the late reply! I would recommend Adventure Sports
OMG pumping the board to gain speed what a brilliant trick! I will practice this in my next LW session thank you!
Thank you
Thank you
Hey man love the channel, I just had my first lesson and loved it in st Pete. I live in Ybor and am looking at purchasing gear, any advice on stores or how to get cheap gear? Facebook marketplace?
just saw this, facebook marketplace for sure
Thanks for the tips!
Cool. But i think you need to fly both on a newer bar
I think that would be really cool and is a good idea, thank you!
great video. I am a beginner of kitesurfing. My trouble is to turn kite up to keep it at 45 degree angle after diving the kite first to waterstart. I pointed my board downwind, somehow the kite would not go up no mater how I turned it, it stayed at the edge of the wind window and then dropped into the water due to lack of wind power at the edge of the wind window. please advise.
Das will ich auch sehen wenn er kein Grund unter den Füßen hat 😂
So cool! My boy is 9 and I was thinking about teaching him this year. What size kite did you use?
Your niece did great! Becca was FIRE !!!!!!!
congratulations for your family!!
Thank you so much 😀5m kite with 10m lines

Love your videos
Nice video Anthony! Thanks!
Thanks Anthony, learnt alot (always forget stuff) but in under 7mins youve really taught us ALOT. Plus I like I have this bar lol
wooooooooh soooo informative. I have the older bar (Large) & I love it, HATE using other people's bar but I would defo give the new one a try too.The Safety is the real/biggest change...like our man said its not bad on the older one but just that bit improved. Like the swivel gimmick too though not a game changer but very cool & cool dbl tube design. Mine is the RECOIL rather than TRIMLITE, yeah its bulky but i think i must have short arms lol (5'9") as I dont like stretching to reach pushing the bar out. But do I go for the TRIMLITE std cleat system next time??? reason i got the RECOIL (nothing to do with the Fab video) is 1) the spring return mech. for shorter arms 2) learning on worn out cleat system @ a school i struggled to get the cleat to Hold the line but i guess cleat is best/simply provided its not worn out. this is just the video i was looking for FANKS love your work....sound has imporved from some of your earlier videos where i struggled to listen 100% ace vid buddy
nice memory from there. love this place. the spot is amazing.
isnt it! we'll be going back one day
Wish you a speedy recovery Anthony !!
Post knee surgery therapy huh 😂.
hah no, pre surgery but just getting around to editing it
Wish you a good and fast recovery… we miss your video dude! Could I ask you something? I’m choosing 2024 stuff. I choosed 8 nitro, 10 motox apex and I don’t know what choose for 12 motox apex or fx2 13 or 13 motox apex… What do you suggest?my weight is like yours, I like freestyle wake style like you, and my light wind day is from 12/13 to 16/17 knots. You used this kite and your opinion for me is a good opinion to choose. Thanks a lot See you soon on the water
Thank you! I would choose the 13m Moto Apex.. I really love that one for lightwind freestyle/ fun
Thanks a lot, and what’s your set up? 13 and???
For you what size and what kite I can choose under the 13 moto XL?
@@mdipalmaactionsports7117 unfortunately acl surgery has put me out so I really don’t know. Supporting my wife’s kiteboarding and been enjoying watching her go.. she’s mostly been on the 10 moto apex
Dang bud, sorry to find out here about your injury. I do hope you make a full recovery and that you choose to resume kiting when ready. I was kinda wondering why I hadn’t seen you at the skyway. Anyway, all the best to you and your family.
Sounds like you have the right mindset. Wishing you a thorough recovery
Gute Besserung, habe das selbe Problem ...
wish you a good recovery...hopefully back on the water soon with nice videos. greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you so very much! Hoping to be stronger than before
Recover, reflect and reignite

Anthony please make sure you take good care of yourself…and recover soon
I will! Lots of PT
My grandmother can launch a kite while standing in shallow water. Do that shit when you are in deep water.
We do lol
What do you think? Is better 13 XL or 12 motox apex? Did you tried 12 m? What’re your quiver this year?
Thanks Anthony!
Not recommended. Thank you for the advice but unfortunately this method (with the kite exactly positioned as illustrated in your video) turned out in a disaster. I did exactly the same as mentioned in your video for a period of time and it worked but what I didn't realise was that everytime I did it that way, the bar's lines rubbed against the sharp edge of the kiteboard (as shown in your tutorial). This later caused a line to snap during a relaunch and taught me to keep the kite in the air (at 11 or 12 o'clock) to prevent damaging the lines while putting on the kiteboard.
Woah! The board shouldn’t be that sharp to cut a line! I’ve never seen that before
What's the difference between Switchblade and Nitro? Is Switchblade not a big air looping kite? This confusion bars entry to give Cabrinha a try.
I don't know why, but I've been struggling with this trick for years. 313 is no problem at all, but this one drives me nuts.
This is painful to watch. Just leave the kite at 12, put the back foot in first (with the board pointing downwind), and then add the front foot. Easy and fast, plus you don't get all that water down your neck.
100% this is the best and easiest / safest way to learn to get into your board , I have been teaching this method for over 10 years !! Before that I was teaching the old/normal methods for 5 years and can say that this is defiantly the best way , It has solved all the issues that people have with learning to get into the board at 12 or 10/2 o'clock and using the upwind binding strap to hold the board instead of the handle, places the downwind strap the furthest distant away from the downwind foot allowing the easiest entry .... Nice work KSP!!! This method gives people a 100% reliable and safe method to get into the board no matter what the water depth or wind strength is , stops them oversteering and crashing the kite and provides them with a stable platform to enter into the water start. Again, great job KSP
Right! No point in trying to make things more complicated than they need to be!
I hope you are not a kite school. Stop publishing this kind of "advices". Easiest? Dont think so. Teach first to properly control the kite, then to put the board. No short cuts.
“Properly” control the kite is a subjective term. I am a kite school, with thousands of hours teaching and teaching different methods. Even with people with “proper” kite control sometimes lose control when trying to put the board on. It takes time. And for most people this method tends to be the easiest and most effective. Why make kiteboarding more complicated than it needs to be?
@@KiteboardingStPetersburg Properly is a very simple term. They need to control the kite with one hand and keep it in one place without constantly watching it. Using large board with all the lines on the water surface is IMHO a very bad idea.
@@januszdomitrz4424 with literally thousands of hours of experience nothing bad has happened. Also, have seen people fly the kite no problem, one hand and as soon as you give them the board they forget how to do it. Again, with close to 10000 hours of teaching experience, this method tends to be best for beginners
@@januszdomitrz4424 and in our teaching we have people practice using one hand to fly the kite early on and how it can be used to launch, land and keep the kite in a stable position at 10 or 2. Then again to body drag upwind, which of course requires one hand. Once they can body drag upwind in addition to previous steps then they’re ready to try the board. So at that point they would technically have “proper” control. However the reality is that you hand them a board for the first time and they forget their basics
@@KiteboardingStPetersburgdo whatever you like, I am just saying (both as a kiter and instructor) that I do not recommend this method. I never recommend methods that they might want to use in the future. And putting the kite in the water for no reason is a bad idea. If they are not able to put the board on the shallow water, they are not ready to have the board, end of story. You are taking the shortcut in order to have a result faster. And I know the presure to get the board. But it is wrong approach. As I wrote, your methodology, your choice. Just dont recommend it :) and dont be proud of inventing the wheel.
It's a different way, but for sure not the easiest way!:))
For beginner it is, with thousands of hours teaching and teaching different ways. This tends to be the easiest
@@KiteboardingStPetersburg Man,I have a belly, I do not have the flexibility to do your method. Even your student who is for sure more flexible than me is struggling in the video to handle the board while being pulled over the board. I keep the kite at 12, put one foot in the strap, then leave the board in the water because it is hard for me to put the other foot while holding the board by the handle. I put the board in the water, wiggle the other foot in and that's it for me. I like your other videos but with this one I cannot agree :)
@@niko93988he’s a beginner and first time trying to get the board on. So not too bad! And my bigger students tend to find this the easiest as well
But “easiest” is different for everyone and finding the right technique for you. From my experience over thousands of hours this has been a very effective method
Interesting. I have a GoJoe on my board, which sorta interferes with the control bar and lines in this situation. Also, of course, you need to have the straps towards you... as a beginner, if the board is the wrong angle and catching the water, that will present some issues if you're dragged by the kite. Presumably that won't happen in a light breeze with the kite on the water, but if something catches the bar getting into this position, the kite may react. For whatever reason, I find it easier to get one of my feet into the strap easier than the other; whether that foot is up or downwind, and that foot seems to be better at controlling / moving the board into position to get the other foot in.
The gojoe changes things. We always have people body drag upwind first then incorporate the board after
Some great tips and excellent presentation, thanks!
No way.
The kites are too similar, I would like to know how a 2023 feels compared to a 2021, my actual kite. There the difference must be bigger, I think...
I have both models, and can tell ya the 2023 is definately less bar pressure, and snappier faster turns. That being said, I feel as though the 2021 is more stable, especially in gusty conditions. Must be due to the pulleys it has. Either way both kites still kick ass in my opnion!
@@adrianveras4117 Thank you! I will still be holding on to my 2021 since I am a begginer and I have a lot to learn until I switch to another year/models.
Good question!
Thanks for the great review!
Inflatable just don't do light winds
Why doesn’t Cabrinha and the like not put anything new out until their is a drastic change that even a beginner could feel.
I think because it is impossible to make drastic changes all the time. Matter of fact, almost 99.99% of everything we do is improved incrementally, because that is how most progress and innovations happen. Slowly and incrementally.
